Learning Without Limits

English Language Arts (ELA)

ELA

English Language Literacy encompasses six core ideas: Language, Speaking and Listening, Reading Literature, Reading Informational Text, Reading Foundations K-5, and Writing.

Our goal at Vestavia Hills Elementary Liberty Park is to ensure all students develop a love of reading and read proficiently. Proficient readers are better able to master academic content, succeed in school, and reach their full potential. Vestavia Hills Elementary at Liberty Park is an Alabama Reading Initiative site. The school system has adopted the reading series Wonders published by McGraw Hill for grades K-5. VHCS has adopted the writing series Units of Study by Lucy Calkins published by Heinemann. In addition, teachers use a variety of other resources to enhance Language Arts Instruction.
